Let’s take a moment to reflect on the power of imagination. Our generation, along with those before us, grew up enchanted by bedtime stories filled with folklore and tales of dashing princes rescuing damsels in distress. However, as technology has advanced, it seems to have overshadowed our creativity, often stifling our ability to think outside the box and embrace the vibrant colors of our imagination.

Folklore is a term used to denote the traditional beliefs, superstitions, manners and observations of ordinary people which have persisted from earlier into later times and flourish a side of contemporary patterns of knowledge and religions. In folklore distinction must be made between folk legends, once or still believed to be true and Folk narratives told merely to instruct or entertain.
There is a vast body of sayings and beliefs incorporating traditional natural phenomena, medical remedy, trade and industry.
Norwich City of Stories
From Myths and legends, stories build a safe and imaginary world in which to explore, and for people to connect. Telling stories through art, connecting and opening up conversation's that bring us together.
Collecting Social History
During the Exhibition there are opportunities to book workshops that retell history and tales from local Norfolk, while immerse yourself in to either weaving, needle felting or other projects run by local artist.
Travel around the world
Travel around the world and become immersed in folklore handed down through the generations.
Local legends of black shuck, the green man, or further afield, like the black imps of York, notarise for witches and romans marching through cellars. To story's from Poland.

Flash Fiction
Enjoy an afternoon writing Flash Fiction micro stories or poems inspired by Art on show at the Telling Tales exhibition.
Paint and Stitch
This professionally guided session explores how to combine expressive paint techniques with simple hand-stitching to create layered, tactile sketchbook pages.
Maze Books
Learn the clever craft of Maze book-making and illustrate with ink and a painting technique inspired by Sumi-e to create your own miniature sketchbook.
Inspired by the Wave
Inspired by Hokusai’s iconic woodblock print The Great Wave off Kanagawa and the haunting history of Japan’s ancient coastal "tsunami stones," participants will weave storytelling and visual art together.
Emma Verity - Leaving the Shallows
This workshop aims to use the felt sense as a way into writing. Mindfulness meditation and mark making techniques are offered as a way to connect to the landscape of your choice .
The writing process is encouraged through readings and discussion of extracts from ‘Leaving the Shallows’ in order to demonstrate how landscape can be used to represent personal, historical and atmospheric potential in writing .
As a bridge to writing and mark making across time, there will be the opportunity to make your own Ogham and crystal talisman. Both this and a copy of the novella are included in the ticket price.
No experience required just a willingness to let the process unfold!
Please bring a picture you wish to write from otherwise all materials are provided.
